Eligibility Criteria for the Thomson Foundation Young Journalist Award

The following requirements must be satisfied by applicants in order to be eligible for the Thomson Foundation Young Journalist Award:

  • Age: The age requirement for applicants is 30 or under.
  • Nationality: Candidates must originate from nations where the Gross National Income (GNI) per person is less than $20,000.
  • Language: Entries may be submitted in any language, but they must be accompanied by a reliable English translation.
  • All Applicants shall be reporting from their country of residence, as determined by the GNI, or from a comparable country.
  • Additionally, applicants must explain in their submitted stories any collaborations they have had with peers or outside groups.
  • A written statement that is no longer than 200 words per story is required for all journalists who are vying for the FPA award. This is a synopsis of the information.
